The hillside town of Tzfat (Safed) Israel has been a spiritual centre since the 1600s when it was the centre of Kabbalah, or jewish mysticism. Tzfat is still a highly religious place, filled with Orthodox Jews in their traditional black hatband suits, curled sideburns, and beards.
