Bedouins make kohl, an eye-liner powder substance made from coal, olive oil and herbs and apply it to their eyes using a small metal rod. They use it to protect the eye area from the harsh desert climate and to ward off the evil eye. I couldn’t help but think of Jack Sparrow as I met this Bedouin in passing. I loved Petra; loved Jordan. I found its people to be welcoming, warm hearted and respectful.
